How we spent our summer vacation.
This summer, every ounce of energy has gone into building Divvy Music as a viable option for music streaming that serves the independent music community. We’ve engaged our developers to the extent that our current funds allow, but we’re hungry to do more. My full-time focus now is securing additional resources to keep the momentum going. I’m also incredibly proud of the management and advisory team we’ve put together—seven amazing people ready to dive in as well, once we have the means to take things further.Â
Having just "graduated" to the next level of a startup accelerator program, I am armed with the tools to connect with like-minded investors. We’re already in the due diligence phase with a few, but I can’t say more just yet—fingers crossed for some exciting news soon!Â
Meanwhile, crowdfunding continues on SpotFund and we thank you for every dollar-that's one less we have to pay back and we will pay it forward instead. And, we've taken on a new way to help indies through a partnership with Radio Garden State and Telegraph Hill Records in Asbury Park. Please listen to me and Joe Pomarico from Telegraph Hill Records LIVE every Sunday night on "Telegraph Hill Radio" from 7-9PM, where we play and talk about the music made in New Jersey and share our indie based insider perspectives and exclusive tracks.
As for me, my life is on hold for Divvy and I’m okay with that! It’s not like I had to sacrifice a summer house in the Hamptons or anything like that, but I have been going without a few things my middle class self misses to save resources and make Divvy happen. This is an investment I consider myself lucky to make. I'll get to spend the rest of my life doing something I love with people I love, too. That's I’m committed to building something sustainable, something that not only serves the independent community but can also adapt to changes in the music industry and technology.Â
It’s hard not to get down some days—slow and steady might win the race, but that doesn’t mean it’s always easy. Whenever I need a boost, I tune in to the music that first inspired me—the bands I discovered back in 2015, the independent songs that took me back to the days when finding new music was a huge priority. It reminded me that this layer of music is still happening beyond the mainstream. Indie music didn’t go away just because I got distracted by life, top 40 hits and major label artists. It’s still here, waiting to be heard—and that’s exactly what Divvy is here to support.Â
